End tab vs. top tab

By Denny Aingworth on 2013-07-17 15:39:36 -

Confused by these common filing terms?? Top tab refers to the location of a file folder tab when the folder is placed on it's hinge (closed) edge. End (or side) tab refers to the tab location when the folder is place on the same hinge edge. Tabs can be provided in almost any size, but 3rd cut and 5th cut are most common in top tab systems while full tabs are most common on end tabs. Full tabs are gaining in popularity for top tab systems. Top tabs are predominently found in file drawer and suspended (pendaflex) hanging systems. End tabs are usually used in larger open shelf arrangements because they often utilize color coding and bar codes.   **** Stay tuned next month for the exciting explanation: Why you should consider color and bar codes for your filing requirements.****

File labels made easy

By Denny Aingworth on 2013-06-12 15:15:48 -

Are you still using those archaic little sticky-labels to help supplement your filing system? Are you aware that there is an automated system that can work with your database to produce a single color-coded, bar-coded label that duplicates your color coded system. It will also add text to each label based on your downloaded or typewritten input. This system will work for both side/end tab folders as well as top tab folders. AND, MOST IMPORTANTLY IT IS VERY AFFORDABLE. For more information please call or e-mail Denny Aingworth at 303-916-5557 or denny.aingworth@indoff.com.

High-density Security Storage

By Denny Aingworth on 2013-05-21 15:51:16 -

Many facilities have secure storage for their tenants, employees, military personnel & equipment, and law enforcement to name a few. The time may come when the floorspace originally allocated is maxed out. WHAT THEN?? One form of high-density storage is mobile shelving, aka: mobile-aise, compacting storage. This type of equipment utilizes carriages with wheels underneath that roll on steel tracks which are placed on the existing floor. With this design the open aisle changes as the carriages are rolled to the left or right. In the highest density scenario, there would only be one aisle designed into the system. Depending on the overall size an increased capacity approaching 90-100% could be acheived. If more access is needed then more aisleways can be added to the design. And finally, the last step is to mount the existing lockable caging to the top of the carriages. Size doesn't matter as the carriages can be designed to virtually any size. As an added feature, the individual rows of cages can also be locked if need be.

Whether it is File folders in 4 post shelving, Library books in cantilever shelving, Long guns or Hand guns in gun racks, Police Evidence on wide span shelving or Artifacts in roll out drawers.

The “Stuff” being stored will impact how it is stored.

While it is important to provide adequate capacity for the existing “stuff” it is just as important to plan for future growth.

How many people and how often will they access your “Stuff” throughout the day, is there a need for security or a controlled access system? Will all or some parts of your “Stuff” need to be locked? Are there special considerations needed for how the “Stuff” is stored. Will the system be in a centralized location?

Provide a space efficient, cost effective solution that can be expanded or adapted to changing media in the future.

The cost of the material, freight and installation of your solution could be offset by the savings realized in less square footage needed and the subsequent savings in utilities and insurance.

Delta Airlines Case Study

By Etherton Jacque on 2013-03-08 14:50:09 -

Corporate Headquarters: Delta Airlines was running out of space in their central filing department. They needed a way to secure files and store more in the same amount of space. Integrating mixed media into the storage system was an important goal.

Challenge: Delta Airline's Central Filing Department had lateral files that were functional, but just not doing the job. The staff needed an efficient and versatile storage system with greater capacity. However, in an effort to save money, it was mandatory that their top tab filing system be retained without conversion to another filing style.

Solution: Times-2 Speed Files in a 7-Teir height were recommended and Delta Airlines agreed that this was the perfect solution.

Fifty Times-2 units replaced the old-style lateral system. The new locking, double-sided units increased storage. In fact, each 7-Tier Times-2 replaced the equivalent of 3.28 lateral files in much less space. Top tab filing was no problem either; the units were accessorized with drawers to accommodate this filing style. Binders and mixed media were stored in the unit's top shelves as reflected in the photo. Delta Airlines gained security for their confidential files, too --with one spin an open Times-2 closes and locks.

Delta's requirements to increase storage, save office space, improve efficiency, and tighten security were met with the versatile Times-2 Speed Files.
